Mango is a fruit whose taste is difficult not to appreciate. This beauty is a welcome guest on any table. I just love mangoes. Moreover, I know that both a ripe fruit oozing with juice and its unripe companion can be served deliciously.
Many people buy mangoes in a supermarket or on vacation in Thailand, for example, and then don’t know how to deal with them. There are many ways to peel a mango, and I will introduce you to a few.
Of course, the peel of the fruit is very beautiful. And if I could eat it with the skin on, I would do so. But still, it needs to be cleaned off and we will now figure out exactly how.
1. Peeling mangoes is always quite difficult, and first of all you need to check whether the fruit is ripe. Color is not an indicator: the peel can be green, red, yellow-orange, and even purple. Just like with an avocado, you need to lightly squeeze it in your palm and check if it is elastic. Its smell can help - the riper the fruit, the more aromatic. Then you need to place the mango on a flat surface (it is better to use a plate to catch the juice that is released). Remember that there is a large pit in the middle, so take a sharp knife and, holding the fruit vertically, cut a piece on both sides of the pit.
3. After this, you need to turn the piece inside out and cut the cubes of pulp into a plate. Then add all the juices that leaked out when processing the mango.
How to peel a mango, method 2.
Alternatively, the mango can be cut into pieces, but it should be just ripe and not too soft. You will need a potato peeler to cut off the skins. Then, holding the mango in one hand, use a small knife to cut out a piece of the flesh around the pit. And continue cutting pieces in a circle.
If the mango is too soft and stringy to cut in any way, simply cut it into pieces and spoon the pulp into a food processor with small quantity lime juice. It makes an excellent sauce for desserts (with yogurt) or even for fish and chicken.
How else can you eat mango?
For dessert you need to choose ripe mango. You can tell if a product is ripe by squeezing it in your palm. Ripe fruit will be soft and fragrant. Ripeness also affects how easy it is to peel the mango.
Unripe (green mangoes) are an element of many exotic salads, and they are also served with seafood. You can also make sauces, side dishes, and smoothies with these mangoes.
It is best to enjoy mangoes raw, because this way you will get more vitamins and nutrients from it. Mangoes are best eaten chilled.
You can also squeeze juice out of mangoes and make a puree from it. Children will especially like the puree.

Mango is an exotic fruit known for its popularity, which is not averse to being tasted in all corners of the globe. It is full of vitamins and microelements, has an unsurpassed smell, juicy pulp and rich taste. If you have a ripe fruit on your hands, we recommend that you prepare in advance and learn how to peel and eat mangoes.
Information about the fruit
Mangoes are grown massively in India. Residents of the country use it to strengthen the immune system and improve brain function. And it really helps, as it contains vitamins A and B, vitamin C, and is rich in magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron. Having refreshed yourself with two ripe fruits, your body will receive daily norm ascorbic acid.
By appearance tropical fruit can be distinguished by oval shape and thick skin that is red, green or yellow.
Ripe mango has a shiny, smooth skin with a bright and rich color. In addition, a ripe fruit determines:
- the presence of black specks on the peel;
- If the fruit is slightly squeezed with your fingers, the peel will show faint dents;
- sweet smell that becomes stronger at the stalk;
- easily separated from the stone, juicy, fibrous pulp (if the pulp is hard and difficult to separate, it is not ripe, if the pulp looks like mush, it is overripe).
Advice! Eating unripe mangoes may cause respiratory irritation and gastrointestinal upset.
Are mangoes peeled?
Yes, they clean it. Or at least they don't eat the skin. The skin of the fruit is thick and has no taste. It does not contain vitamins and, moreover, it contains poison - the organic oil toxin Urushiol, which, when interacting with human skin, can cause allergies and itching. Therefore, it is recommended for allergy sufferers and others to peel mango peels using latex gloves.
If after contact with the fruit you were exposed to a toxin, this does not mean that mango is contraindicated for you, because the core of the fruit does not contain harmful substances.
How to peel a mango?
There are several options for peeling fruit at home. But no matter how you peel the mango, first tear off the stem and rinse it with running water. Wipe dry. Then get started.
Option 1
Place mango on cutting board.
From the side where the stalk was, start making a vertical cut from the beginning to the very bottom. With a knife you should feel the bone. If there are two barely noticeable lines on the fruit (these are the edges of the seed), cut along them.
Turn the fruit 180 degrees and make another cut.
Now, proceed based on how you cut the fruit. If along the edges of the seed, pull the two halves in different directions, the pit in the ripe fruit should come off easily.
If not along the edges, firmly hold half of the fruit with one hand, and with the other, turn the other around its axis several times. One half will remain boneless, and the other half will be removed with a spoon or cut with a knife.
If you made a cut across the bone, then take two halves and twist in different directions.
From the resulting halves, you can cut out the pulp or, taking a teaspoon, taste the exotic fruit directly in the peel. The second option is preferable, since the mango juice will not leak out and the pulp will not spread.
Option 2
Ripe fruit is easy to peel even with your fingers.
But if you skillfully handle a knife, no one can tell you. Just remember that mango pulp is very slippery and can be a bit of a hassle to clean.
My only advice is to cut off the peel in thin layers.
Can be used for mango and vegetable peeler. Just try not to crush the fruit, as you will cut off more pulp than necessary.
Option 3
If you don't want to peel the mango, cut the fruit in half along the flat pit.
Then, using the same precise motion, cut the bone out of the other half.
The pulp can be beautifully chopped or eaten with a spoon. If desired, the skin can be cut off.
Option 4
If you have already cut the fruit and need to separate it from the peel, a glass will help with this.
Grasp the glass tightly with one hand and offer the fruit with the other.
Make sure to keep the skin on the outside and continue to apply gentle pressure until the mango is completely free of the skin.
Now the pulp can be placed on a plate, cut beautifully and served.
And if you need to cut a mango or are preparing for a feast, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with.
It is supplied to Russia from different countries: Brazil, Guatemala, Bangladesh, India, Thailand. Mango is often called the “Asian apple”, and it is already common to see it on supermarket shelves. But does everyone know how to choose the right mango and how to eat it?
Basically, it is either green or yellow. Green fruits are recommended to be consumed salty, with meat and fish, for example, and yellow, sweeter fruits can be eaten as an independent dessert or as an addition to it.
How to determine the ripeness of a mango
It is important to determine whether the fruit is ripe, because this determines whether it can be eaten or not. How do you know if it is ripe enough? So, a ripe mango should have:
smooth surface of the peel (but there are exceptions: the peel of some varieties of fruit is uneven, as if in folds, and this is the norm);
- small dark specks on the peel;
- weight more than two hundred grams (if the weight is less, then most likely the fruit will be tasteless and harsh);
- soft, but not too soft, top layer (it should be easily pressed to the touch);
- the size of the fruit is not necessarily large (large fruits do not guarantee good taste);
- a pleasant, noticeable aroma that intensifies towards the tail;
- a fairly large stalk, flexible at the base.
It’s great if, when choosing a fruit, you can see it in cross-section. A ripe mango should be bright yellow-orange when cut.
Mango flavor
Shades of taste vary from variety to variety, and also depend on the country of origin. There are suggestions that the taste of mango resembles:
- lemon-carrot flavor,
- pine-lemon;
- bright exotic taste, similar to om;
- strawberry-pineapple;
- with juniper notes.
How to peel a mango
Before eating, the fruit must be peeled. The difficulty is that the skinless fruit is very slippery, and you can easily cut yourself with a knife blade. Let's look at everything in order.
How to remove a pit
There are three ways to remove the kernel from a fruit while leaving the peel intact.
- First way. You need to place the fruit on a cutting board, fix it with your hand so that there is a place with a tail on top. Then you need to draw a knife along barely noticeable lines from top to bottom of the fruit on both sides. Are these lines really that important? They will facilitate the process of removing the seed, and in this case the fruit will be damaged minimally. If you were able to find the lines and the cuts were made along them, then the seed will be located along the halves of the fruit. And to get it, you just need to pull the halves in different directions. In this case, one half will be pitted, and a spoon will help you easily remove it from the second half. If the lines on the mango are invisible, you can make cuts anywhere, most importantly, on two opposite sides of the fruit. If the bone is located across the cuts or perpendicular to the halves, then you can twist the halves in different directions with both hands. Thus, separate them from each other. And remove the bone again with a spoon.
- The point of the second method is to remove the core and end up with almost a whole fruit. There will be an opportunity to cut it into rings. So, you will need a sharp knife. They make a cut along the fruit, small, the size of the kernel. Then the knife needs to be inserted into the slot and not scrolled all the way, but as if moving the halves apart. Then use a spoon to remove the bone. This case is suitable only if the fruit is ripe enough. Otherwise you will have to try very hard.
- And the third way. You can make a slit through the entire fruit so that it runs along the flat side of the pit. To do this you need a sharp knife and skill. In this case, the core is also removed from half of the fruit with a spoon.
In all three cases, you can remove the core of the fruit by first peeling it. It’s just that after this the fruit will become slippery and it will not be very convenient to continue manipulating it.
How to peel a mango
Eat different ways cleaning. Knowing the following points will help you do this correctly.
- Clean with a kitchen knife. Like potatoes, but make the skin thinner. Or make two cuts on the side of the mango opposite the tail. And then use your fingers to stretch the skin to the other end, just like peeling.
- Use a vegetable peeler as a knife. It will take more time, but there is a chance that the skin will be cut thinly and neatly.
- Without using a knife. This can be done if the fruit is ripe and cut into two halves. You'll need a glass here. You need to take half the fruit in one hand. Glass - in another. Place the mango, skin side up, on the glass and press down lightly with your hand. The diameter of the glass is slightly smaller than the diameter of the mango, this will allow the pulp to be inside the glass when pressed, and the peel to be in your hand.

Mango is popular because it is a juicy, tasty and healthy fruit. It is often used in the preparation of various exotic dishes, sauces, seasonings and salads. But not everyone knows how to properly peel a mango. Let's look at common cleaning methods.
Is it worth peeling the fruit?
Like the juicy pulp of the fruit, mango peel contains many substances beneficial to human health. It is often used in folk medicine for preventive and therapeutic purposes. But is it worth eating? The question is controversial. Some people enjoy chewing the rinds, while others don't like the distinct taste. It is important to remember that, unlike mango pulp, the peel can cause allergic reactions in people prone to this disease. Allergy sufferers are advised not only to peel mangoes, but also to do so with rubber gloves.
- The first method is quite banal. You can peel mangoes using a regular kitchen knife or a special vegetable peeler. You just need to cut off the peel, as in the case of potatoes or apples. This method, along with its ease, also has a number of disadvantages. For example, when peeling, a large amount of sweet juice will flow out, and sticky splashes will fly in different directions, staining clothes, furniture and everything else.
- The second cleaning method is as follows. Using a sharp knife, cut off the mango slices around the pit. We discard the bone and continue the procedure. It is better to carry out all manipulations over a plate so that the flowing juice can be drunk at the end. We take the cut half in our hand and make cuts on the flesh side with a knife so that the peel remains unharmed. Patterns can be different: squares, diamonds, rectangles. After the slice is cut, you need to press on the peel from the outside, as if turning half of the fruit inside out. Carefully cut off the convex pulp with a knife at the base and place it on a plate. This cleaning method is classic and is most often found when serving.
- A simple way is the following. We simply cut the unpeeled fruit into slices right down to the bone, removing it. Then we simply eat the pulp, leaving the peel. The process is reminiscent of eating a slice of watermelon or melon.
- Any mango fruit is incredibly juicy. If you get an overripe unit when purchasing, it will contain many times more juice. This processing method is suitable specifically for such fruits. Using a sharp knife, cut the mango lengthwise right down to the bone, so that the result is two molded halves with a notch from the pit in the middle. Then you can eat the mango with a spoon, enjoying the ripe and juicy taste. It is better to cut the fruit on a plate so that the excess juice that flows out does not go to waste.
- Another manipulation for a ripe and rather soft fruit. Using a sharp knife, cut the mango into slices of any size, as desired. Next, use a knife or spoon to separate pieces of pulp from the peel. This method is suitable when using sweet pulp to prepare a sauce or other dish. You can also simply eat the product by drinking the juice from the plate.
- Another helpful advice. The fruit is ripe, but hard. We take a sharp kitchen knife or a vegetable peeler and peel the fruit like a potato or an apple. Then use a knife to cut the fruit into slices along the entire length, going deep to the very bone. Next, simply separate the slices from the bone and carefully cut off the skin. Place on a plate. Not forgetting about large quantities juice, we perform all the manipulations on the plate.
- If mango pulp is needed to prepare a dish or sauce, it will still be crushed, for example, in a blender. For such cases, the glass cleaning method is suitable. Take a soft, overripe fruit and cut it lengthwise, going down to the pit. Separate and get two equal halves without bones. We take a regular glass with one hand and a mango slice with the other. Place the half so that the pulp faces toward the inside of the cup and the peel faces out. Next, press hard on the fruit, as if bifurcating it. As a result, the pulp is peeled and, together with the juice, falls deep into the glass. The fruit is cleaned.
2 important rules
- Before starting any of the above procedures, the fruit must be thoroughly washed with running water and blotted off excess moisture with a clean, dry towel or napkin.
- When cutting the fruit, you need to be careful not to damage the bone with a knife. Otherwise, bone elements may get into the pulp and cause some inconvenience when consumed.
People eat mangoes for weight loss, treatment of diseases associated with the genitourinary system and gastrointestinal disorders, as well as for many other problems in the body. Mango gives health, beauty and pleasure from eating a juicy and sweet exotic product. Using any cleaning method you like from those described above, you can deal with the peel and please yourself and your family with a yummy dessert.
